About Microfinance
Microfinance institutions are a key link to people struggling to escape the grip of poverty. These institutions function as banks for these resilient women and men, providing small loans that can make a big difference. More than 100 million people around the world today use microfinance services. |
How it works |
|
![]() ![]() The MEDA Trust web site is an exciting opportunity for you to help women and men around the world who, although trapped in poverty, are committed to working hard to create a new life for themselves and their families. When you visit the Loans page, you can browse through a number of different loans by sector (ie. Agriculture, Retail). With each donation used to fund a loan through MEDA Trust, you are helping someone realize a brighter future.
As the loans are repaid, you will see the amount of repayment credited back into your online MEDA Trust portfolio. You can use the funds in your portfolio to invest towards another loan applicant. This is the power of microfinance loans – as one loan is repaid, another loan can be made and another small business entrepreneur benefits! When you donate to MEDA Trust you will receive an electronic tax receipt. You can watch the impact of your initial investment multiply as it is loaned, repaid and re-loaned to another loan applicant. If there is no activity in your portfolio over a two-year period, your account will be discontinued. The funds will remain invested with MEDA partner MFIs – so your donation will have an ongoing impact. |
